Adopt a different stance
So, both the Church of England and the Catholic Church have decided to put an even bigger wedge between themselves and the people they are supposed to represent [Or, put another way, the people they choose to represent] in the name of God by opposing moves that legislate for gay couples to adopt through agencies, including those run by the Catholic church..
The Catholic Church still has a lot to answer for as far as acts of sexual, physical and psychological misconduct are concerned over the years, yet they still believe that an adopted child may be better off with a heterosexual couple than a homosexual couple just because of one sects interpretation of a book [The Bible].
The Archbishops of Canterbury and York, Rowan Williams and John Sentamu, apparently say "rights of conscience cannot be made subject to legislation, however well-meaning".
Which is interesting when you think that both Bush and Blair entered the war in Iraq believing the same God the Archbishops believe in was on their side and they entered into that conflict with a clear conscience and the law on their side.
The sooner religion and its bigoted teachings are taken out government the better; governments rarely make the right decisions with it and will always come under threat and be held to ransom by it.
I am neither Gay nor Religious but I think the best place to position an adopted child is with the couple who will love and care for that child as if it were their own.
I have met and spoken to many messed up adults who were adopted by a ‘straight’ couple whom then systematically abused them.
Church leaders, I suggest you look to your own conscience and leave the legislation to everyone else.
